Volunteering at Rennell Elementary

At Rennell, we are proud to welcome parent, grandparent, caregiver, and family involvement. We value and appreciate having volunteers in our school, and we encourage you to be a part of what’s happening at Rennell as much as possible. Whether you want to be a committee head, on the PTO Executive Board, or just want to volunteer here and there- your presence makes a difference to our Redhawk family!

Below you'll find some more information on the various volunteer opportunities that you can take advantage of this year. To stay informed, fill out our Volunteer Interests Form for 2026-2027 and we'll be sure to keep you in the loop on chances to be a part of the fun! 

SCience resource center demos

If you love animals, this is the place for you! SRC volunteers get to visit Rennell with live animals in tow, checked out from the CFISD SRC! After attending a short training at the SRC, volunteers introduce students to specific animals and scientific concepts appropriate to their grade level. 

Check out the SRC Training Calendar for training dates. SRC Demos happen 2-3 times per year, per grade-level, so this is a very fun and interactive way to volunteer! 

Ready to Grow Garden  

The Ready to Grow Garden is a special part of our Rennell science program. On Garden Days, our students work in the campus garden where they learn how to grow vegetables from seed, care for crops organically, and how to enjoy the harvest! 

All lessons are prepared and delivered to our classes by our fabulous Ready To Grow Gardens representatives, but volunteers are welcomed into the garden to help lessons run smoothly. Whether you have a green thumb or a black one, the garden is always in need of volunteers to help ensure the success of Garden Days or with things like weeding, pruning, and watering!

Junior achievement & Biztown (new for 2026-2027!)

JA is a volunteer-delivered, K-12 program that empowers young people to own their civic and economic success. It fosters work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and helps young people connect with relevant learning and the importance of staying in school.

Volunteers complete a self-guided JA Orientation online, then receive a FULLY DEVELOPED kit that has the curriculum written out and all the materials needed. Using these provided materials, volunteers present (5) 30-minute sessions to a class of students. Volunteers schedule these with the classroom teacher so it can be flexible with his/her schedule. The students love the lessons and tend to look forward to their visit from their classroom JA volunteers.

BIztown

JA BizTown is a 5th grade program that combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular program allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. The program helps students connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. Stay tuned for more details on how Rennell 5th graders will participate in this for the first time this year!

Hospitality

We love our teachers and staff, and this committee coordinates several lunches and events during the school year to show them our appreciation! Crafting gifts and decorations, setting up decor, lunches or treats, as well as assisting with clean-up are the main duties. Hospitality committee volunteers also help prepare for and celebrate at the Holiday Parties and End of Year Parties! If you are creative, crafty, or just love to give back in a very tangible way, Hospitality would love your help!

Fundraising

Help ensure that our major fundraising efforts are running smoothly each year by assisting the VP of Major Fundraising through the processes of planning and executing the Fall Fundraiser, Redhawk Rally, and the Spring Silent Auction! Volunteers here will help with prize distribution, volunteer coordination, vendor communication, and other tasks that play to your strengths to rally families and community members around our fundraising efforts. To celebrate our successful fundraising efforts, volunteers will help pull off our Redhawk Rally- a community event and campus-wide celebration!

Corporate Sponsorships & outreach

Do you love connecting with people and supporting our school? The Corporate Sponsorship Committee helps build relationships between Rennell Elementary and the amazing businesses in and around our community! You'll assist with securing and building relationships with our sponsors, bringing their recognition to life, and showing them appreciation and celebrating their impact throughout the year.

Yearbook

Each year, Rennell produces an amazing yearbook! There are hundreds of images captured to help us tell the story of your child’s school year. This committee is in need of photographers who can come in for various events throughout the year and ensure all of our grades are thoroughly featured in the book. In addition, we need volunteers to help design page layouts and photo backgrounds and edit and review content.

spirit shop

The Spirit Shop is a fun, small fundraiser where children can purchase school supplies, toys/fidgets and Rennell-branded items during their lunch time! Volunteers are needed to assist students in shopping and calculating totals on the days of Spirit Shops, to help setup and takedown displays, and to help sort items and assemble mystery bags leading up to the Spirit Shops.

Philanthropy

While we love helping out at Rennell, we are also fortunate enough to be able to support our adopted school, Emery Elementary, as well! Philanthropy volunteers will help plan and work volunteer events at  Emery to benefit their students, faculty and staff. We also hold an annual Thanksgiving food drive and last year we were able to purchase 30 turkeys and send bags of food to families at Emery! The Philanthropy team will also help pull off a small fundraiser called "Chunk the Change" (formerly "Penny Wars"), with funds raised going to support a worthy cause. 

PICTURE DAY

School picture day is a large undertaking and volunteers help it run smoothly! Volunteers will be needed on Picture Days to assure the schedule is adhered to by collecting classes as needed, help our students look their best with last minute adjustments, and assist photographers as needs arise.

LIBRARY

Volunteer responsibilities include assisting in the library on a regularly scheduled weekly basis and assisting with the yearly Book Fair. Library volunteers are asked to attend an annual Orientation at the start of each year to be updated on policies and procedures.
